CASE STUDY
Jefferson Parish, Louisiana is a major suburb of the City of New Orleans. The Jefferson Parish Department of Transit Administration retains GCR and Associates for grant management, compliance with all federal reporting requirements, short and long-range planning, capital projects administration, promotional planning, and operation management- a contract that has been in effect since 1991. As a part of this comprehensive transit management program our reports and studies relate to current or upcoming issues within the transit system.
GCR assignments have covered topics such as:
- Route Service Analysis and Updated Service Standards for Jefferson Parish Transit System
- Long Range Financial Plan for Jefferson Parish Transit
- Coordination with the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) and the Regional Planning Commission (RPC).
- Updated Security Plan for Jefferson Parish Transit System
- Fixed Route and Paratransit Systems compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA),
- Updated Bus Stop Inventory,
- Capital Improvement Plan to replace fixed route and paratransit vehicles,
- Annual Title VI survey to ensure that all minority populations are being served by the transit system,
- Promotional activities to increase ridership, and
- Community involvement in the planning process.
GCR conducts ongoing data analysis to support long and short range transit initiatives. Most recently GCR has conducted a thorough review of the fixed route and paratransit vehicle fleet in order to ensure funding to replace vehicles as they reach their useful life. GCR is also updating the bus stop inventory to establish a schedule to replace bus shelters and improve safety features at major bus stops in the Parish.
