Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Airports: JFK International Airport, Laguardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport
GCR developed the Computerized Airport Log System (CALS) for use by the Operations Department of the three Port Authority airports to manage their vast amount of information. CALS is used to document all airport inspections, manage the Part 139 compliance process, document calls for service, issue NOTAMS, and store operational and activity data for the facilities. This program is used on a 24-hour-a-day basis, and serves as the official and legal log of activities occurring at the airport.
This application includes an integrated function that allows users to send reports through email. It alerts users of coming events and inserts “Required Reading” entries for users to see items of interests from prior tour shifts. Due to the wide range of data elements (over 1,200 formatted forms), GCR included a module that allows the Port Authority staff to easily add custom-designed screens to the program. This eliminates the need to hire programming staff to add or revise forms and screens every time a change is needed.
In addition, GCR developed and implemented a sophisticated Geographic Information System (GIS) application as part of the CALS. Using ESRI tools, GCR developed MapIt!, a GIS data application enabling users the flexibility to map the location of any activity tracked in the system. Additionally, GCR’s MapIt! system allows users to insert and manipulate layers of information, render maps on data elements in any layer, and query data within the GIS module. The GIS module can be operated within the CALS system or as a stand-alone application. Numerous Port Authority staff members use MapIt! as their sole interface to GIS data developed by GCR or by other Port Authority initiatives.
